Dear Parents,

Over the past few weeks the Magpies Junior Football Club and Belconnen Cats Junior AFL Club have been in discussion regarding our U16 and U18 boys teams for the 2022 season.

A decision has been reached to form one Belconnen team for each of these age groups. This decision is a wonderful sign of unity between the two local Belconnen teams and demonstrates the strength and passion for football that will feed into our seniors at Belconnen Magpies in years to come. This decision is primarily based on transitioning our junior players into the Senior football club. These two teams will be known as the Belconnen Juniors and play in the senior club jersey.

Further a Men’s Rising Stars team (u18) will also be fielded from both Cats and Magpies players.

Based on previous encounters all of our combined boys teams will be extremely competitive across the AFL Canberra competition.   We can’t wait to get out there and represent Belconnen proudly.

Registrations are now open for the Magpies Belconnen Ginninderry Auskick program (5 to 8 years).

Magpies Belconnen Juniors Ginninderry Auskick program is the perfect start for your budding football player wanting to give AFL a go.  Our program is designed for children aged 5 to 8 years (born 2014 to 2017) who have not tried AFL before or who are still too young for the AFL Canberra junior community rounds starting in April.

Children aged 7 or 8 may enjoy it so much that they want to continue playing in our Magpies Juniors Under 8’s team entered in the AFL Canberra community rounds.

ABOUT OUR PROGRAM
When: Sunday’s from 10am to 11am commencing 27 February until the 28 May (10 weeks).  The program pauses for Canberra Day long weekend, and the school holidays.

Where: Ginninderry Community Recreation Park – Asimus Avenue Ginninderry.  (Drive past the Belconnen Magpies Golf Club).

Are you beware of the Magpies? Do you like to show your ‘black and white forever?’ Or are you just in need of some new supporter gear?

Our pre-season campaign will run from 21 February until 7 March with delivery (fingers crossed) prior to season kickoff late April. A link to the campaign will be posted next Monday. This merchandise is completely optional but we have already had requests asking if we were running a campaign before the season started.

Playing shorts and socks will be available closer to season start.

Our 2022 Magpies Junior Football Club welcome to season event will be held at Black Mountain Peninsula in the Canberra Aqua Park area.

Saturday 5 March 2022 – 1pm to 4pm

Canberra Aqua Park (Black Mountain Peninsula, Garryowen Dr, Acton ACT)

You don’t have to have a splash to enjoy all the fun which includes:

• The club will provide a free BBQ throughout the event but please feel free to pack your own picnic.
• We will bring down a couple of footy’s for kids wanting to have a kick.
• Club merchandise will be available for purchase (old stock with limited styles and sizes – new merchandise campaign advertised shortly).
• Representatives from the club will be on hand to help answer questions on the upcoming season or assist with registration.
• Discounted entry (50%) to the Canberra Aqua Park is being provided – a huge sponsorship to the club. Tickets are only $20 per person for guaranteed fun.
  • Please arrive 30 minutes before your session to check in and attend the compulsory safety briefing, which will commence 10 minutes before the session
  • All participants must be able to swim.
  • A lifejacket will be provided for your session and is a requirement to attend our Aqua Park.
  • Minimum age is 5 years old. Kids under 10 years old must be accompanied on the inflatables by a paying adult (over 18). 1 adult to 4 kids maximum.
